Sketchblog: Fruity Pebbles

December 6th, 2008

Six days into the sketchblog and I finally did something breakfast-related. I know some of you were getting worried.

If you grew up around the time I did, you know what I’m talking about. It wasn’t Christmas until you heard the Fruity Pebbles commercial.

The Flintstones themselves are not inherently Christmassy, but their annual holiday commercial certainly was. It’s a classic based on pure repetition alone; they’ve been re-using the same ad every single year since the late eighties. Whether it’s because of tradition or because Post Cereal Corporation is a bunch of cheapskates, I dunno. But I’ve heard the irritating jingle so many times, I’m half convinced there’s a verse of Deck the Halls that goes “Yummy Fruity Pebbles in our bowls.”

Nice use of “foist” as a cartoon sound effect!

This didn’t click until I watched the clip and got to “Ho, ho, ho. I’m hu-hu-hungry!” It was like a switch flipped or something…”Oh yeaaaaah, I remember this!”

Just another comment…you should totally turn this into an advent calendar or something for next year. You know we’d all love it!

    It sort of already is!!
